At the end of the autumn sailing trip, it was time to return to Suwena’s future winter home, Alcaidesa Marina.

The 21 nautical mile journey from Duquesa began in beautiful sunshine, and there was no wind at all, so the first miles passed smoothly as Perkins purred and we enjoyed the wonderful summer day to the fullest. When the wind finally picked up we raised the sails.

When we came out of the sheltering shadow of the Rock of Gibraltar, the wind picked up in earnest. At the same time, we were met by the several knots current flowing from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, so the wind and the current together suddenly raised huge waves. Just moments ago, the gentle waters turned into a proper mess in an instant. As soon as we turned around the Europa Point cape towards La Línea, the waves stopped as if by magic. We’ve encountered these winds rising just around the capes several times while sailing around various headlands, and they always seem to catch us off guard.

This season has included four countries on two continents; Portugal, Spain, Morocco, and Gibraltar. Likewise, numerous memorable moments from both anchorages and different ports, above all, we met a lot of amazing people.

It was an incredible feeling to cast off Suwena’s lines in Lisbon after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic and get back on the water. Suwena’s logbook accumulated 541 nautical miles this season. Now we are preparing her for the upcoming winter in Southern Spain, in Alcaidesa Marina located right next to Gibraltar. Suwena will be waiting for us here in the small town of La Línea de la Concepción, and we are already eagerly planning sailing trips for the coming summer.

Back to Alcaidesa on 5.9.

    Mikä on näkökykysi nykyään?
